Brad Miller
Instrument: Trombone I
first started playing trombone in the fifth grade
in Des Moines. I was fascinated that it was the only
instrument that used a slide. I almost considered
dropping out of band after my sixth grade year, but
my band director convinced me otherwise. What a mistake
that would have been considering that I now teach
middle school band myself!
When I was a high school student, my band director,
Richard Stendel, taught me to love music, and I've
never looked back since. At the University of Iowa,
I had the pleasure of studying trombone further under
Professor David Gier. I also took lessons under George
Krem for a semester.
I graduated from University of Iowa in 2005 with my
Bachelor of Music in trombone. In 2008 I received
my Masters in trombone as well as my teacher certification.
I currently teach middle school band at Mediapolis
Community Schools.
This is my second year of playing trombone with the
Muscatine Symphony Orchestra. It has been a very enjoyable
group to perform with.
I also enjoy playing piano and spending time with
my wife. The birth of our first child was just this
past May, so I can sense that my spare time will be
dwindling away!
