Elizabeth Harris
Instrument: Bassoon
Elizabeth grew up in Washington,
Iowa, and began playing violin in 1st grade. When
that did not work out, she tried piano. Again, another
flop! She began playing bssoon in the 5th grade,
and while she did not love it, she also didn't hate
it.
She is a third generation bassoon player following
in her mother's and great aunt's footsteps. She
also has a musical father--Gary McCurdy. She enjoyed
having him as her band director while in grades
7 through 9. As a youngster this is a fact she has
denied from time to time. But currently she can't
escape the relationship. Gary is known as the "Tabador"
who plays tuba in the orchestra.
In addition to playing in the Muscatine Symphony
Orchestra, she is an active member of the Tipton
Woodwind Quintet and ISDTA (Iowa State Dance/Drill
Team Association). In her free time she works with
various color guards in central and eatern Iowa.
She works for Riverside Casino. She is married to
Henry W. Harris, Jr. They have one "child"
-Peanut-a black lab/chow/Shar[Pei mixed pup.
