Annette Hovland has lived in Muscatine, Iowa for more than 18 years. She is a special education teacher at Muscatine High School. She is a sponsor of both the Young Ambassadors Club and the Creative Writing Club at MHS.

Annette is the administrator of the Muscatine Symphony Orchestra's Facebook page. In addition to serving on the MSO Board and Guild, Annette is the secretary for the Muscatine Civic Chorale Board of Directors. She enjoys singing and is a first soprano with the Chorale.

In July 2004, she performed Dvorak's "Stabat Mater" in Prague, Czech Republic and St. Petersburg, Russia with the Oratorio Society of New York under the direction of the late Lyndon Woodside. The highlight of these performances was that she sang along side her brother John (a member of the OSNY), her daughter Kerstin, and her son Nils.

She and her husband Jack have two adult children, Kerstin and Nils. Both children are proud graduates of Muscatine High School.
